50 GEORGIAN SONGS

The Georgian women’s ensemble IALONI has been practicing the study and popularization of Georgian traditional folk songs, church chants and city songs – since 2009.
The repertoire of the ensemble is focused on forgotten songs and chants – either collected on their own expeditions or found in archives.
IALONI has developed a unique and distinctive performing style.
Some of the important features of the ensemble are the presentation of the diversity of its singers’ individual vocal timbres, and their integration into one artistic unity, while singing together a capella.
These special approaches and unique aesthetics distinguish IALONI from other ensembles.
Experimentation is one of the working principles of the ensemble, both in terms of genre and style, as well as in terms of collaboration with other modern musicians and performers.
The present album – 50 Georgian Songs – is groundbreaking in terms of scale and diversity in the history of Georgian women’s ensembles.
This album gathers together songs and chants from various regions of Georgia and from various genres, and also presents collaborations with other singers and musicians.
Our desire is that these recordings become a guide for the listener into a diverse, magical world.
